ReImagine EHR

Imagine…
It is a joy to use the electronic health record (EHR).
The EHR is constantly saving you time, leaving you more time for your patients and your family.
There is no need to hunt through the record – everything you need is right there.
It is easy to do the right thing, every time.
The tool fits the work so well, working is like play.
When you imagine how the EHR shouldwork, it soon becomes how it doeswork.

The University of Utah ReImagine EHR initiative is a collaboration between the clinical departments, IT, and Biomedical Informatics to make this vision a reality.  Its goal is to transform patient care and the provider experience through standards-based innovations layered on top of the EHR.  Standards leveraged include FHIR, SMART, and CDS Hooks.  This initiative is led by Biomedical Informatics faculty with complementary and synergistic expertise:

  • Kensaku Kawamoto, MD, PhD, MHS, Associate Professor and Vice Chair for Clinical Informatics; Associate Chief Medical Information Officer for University of Utah Health
    • Areas of expertise: standards-based interoperability, clinical decision support
  • Guilherme Del Fiol, MD, PhD, Associate Professor and Vice Chair for Research
    • Areas of expertise: standards-based interoperability, clinical decision support, health IT evaluation
  • Charlene Weir, PhD, RN, Professor and Lead of BMI Sociotechnical Service
    • Areas of expertise: the application of cognitive principles to design and evaluation of comprehensive models of cognitive support that integrate design with implementation
