Assistant Professor (Clinical) Saskia Spiess, MD, has been selected to receive the 2026 Early Career Teaching Award from the University of Utah.
The award, organized by the Teaching Committee, honors early-career faculty members who have made notable contributions to teaching at the institution. Recipients are recognized for developing innovative teaching methods, demonstrating effectiveness in the curriculum and classroom, and showing a strong commitment to enhancing student learning.
“I am humbled and deeply honored,” said Dr. Spiess. “I am thankful to be part of an amazing team of educators, learners, and mentors who have all challenged me and helped me develop an innovative curriculum. I am also thankful to leadership for their continued support of evolving ideas.”
Throughout her time at the university, Dr. Spiess has dedicated significant time and effort to training family medicine residents and medical students, contributing to their clinical education and professional development.
Dr. Spiess said the recognition is encouraging as she continues her work in medical education. “This award helps me recharge and motivates me to continue taking on new challenges,” she said. “I am incredibly grateful to Drs. Fortenberry, Moreno, Hunter, and J. Sullivan for nominating me and taking the time to write letters of support.”
Dr. Spiess will be formally recognized at the University’s General Commencement ceremonies on April 30, 2026.
