Family Medicine Interest Group Receives “Leaders in Learning and Professional Development” Award

The University of Utah’s Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) was recognized with the “Leaders in Learning and Professional Development” award on April 6, 2026.

FMIG is one of the University’s 460 Recognized Student Organizations and among only 12 organizations nominated and selected for an award this year by undergraduate and graduate students across the university.

“We have such a dedicated FMIG team, especially the leadership. We are delighted to see this work recognized at the University level,” said FMIG Director Karly Pippitt, MD.

The interest group is open to all medical students interested in the family medicine field. FMIG supports student education and professional development through a variety of events and activities in partnership with family medicine residency programs across the state.

Among those initiatives are monthly luncheon sessions to discuss current issues in medicine and hands-on workshops to help develop clinical skills in areas such as wilderness medicine, labor and delivery, and dermatology.

In addition, FMIG hosts an annual Residency Fair, providing aspiring physicians with the opportunity to connect with representatives from family medicine residency programs in Utah. This year’s event is scheduled to take place on May 24 from 11:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Alumni Hall at EHSEB.
