Kathy Pedersen Appointed Department Editor for JAAPA

Department of Family and Preventive Medicine Physician Assistant Division associate professor Kathy J. Pedersen, PA-C, MPAS was recently appointed as a Department Editor for the Journal of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (JAAPA). For this new department, she will focus on physician assistants (PAs) and their analogues around the world. Countries are tasked to contribute foundation articles and a status update every five years. While US physicians started the PA profession in this country over 50 years ago, there are many countries with PAs or their analogues, predating and postdating the profession. The initial JAAPA submissions (onset/name) are from Canada (1983/ physician assistant), UK( 2000 /physician associate), Germany (2005 /physician assistant), New Zealand (2010/ physician associate), and Israel (2016/physican assistant).JAAAPA is a US-based, national peer-reviewed journal which has published articles focused on the education and advancement of physician assistants for over 25 years. As Department Editor, Pedersen will help plan, coordinate, and edit journal submissions, in addition to sending for peer review.
