The VPCAT Research Scholars Program is a 2-year structured program aimed at providing leadership competencies, intensive mentorship, research acumen, and practical skills to foster junior faculty in becoming effective independent clinical or translational researchers.

2021 VPCAT Cohort Applications are due by 5:00 pm MST. Late applications are not accepted.

October 30-November 6, 2020

Program performs merit review and prepares notifications. Notifications will be sent to applicants no later than November 6, 2020.

Monday, December 7-8, 2020


All accepted applicants are required to attend the 1 ½-day VPCAT Orientation.

Mandatory Scholar Requirements

Applicants considering submitting an application in response to the 2021 VPCAT Scholar Cohort RFA must be able to commit to the mandatory program events and curricular sessions below. We highly advise applicants to block their calendars and work to transition schedules to accommodate these requirements as early as possible.

  • Initial VPCAT Mentor Meeting: A 1-hour meeting with the scholar, their scientific mentor, assigned VPCAT mentor, and VPCAT staff to take place no later than the end of March 2021.
  • VPCAT Curricular Sessions: Curricular sessions are held from 12:30 to 4:30 pm every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month (except July and December). Lunch is provided at each session. A minimum of 80% attendance is required per year.

The 2021 guidelines have changed and require additional information.
