2020 VPCAT Scholar Cohort Request for Applications (RFA)

The VPCAT Research Scholars Program is a 2-year structured program aimed at providing leadership competencies, intensive mentorship, research acumen, and practical skills to foster junior faculty in becoming effective independent clinical or translational researchers.

2020 VPCAT Cohort Application will go live via the University of Utah Competition Space.

Friday, September 6, 2019 4:00-5:00 pm in HSEB 5100B

VPCAT Application Workshop - interested applicants meeting the applicant eligibility criteria with scientific mentor(s) who meet the mentor eligibility criteria can register to attend by emailing Jenny Cochrane.

Friday, September 27, 2019

2020 VPCAT Cohort Applications are due by 5:00 pm MST and late applications are not accepted.

Thursday, October 31, 2019

Notification and reviewer critiques sent to applicants.

Monday, December 2-3, 2019


All accepted applicants are required to attend the 1 ½ day 2020 VPCAT Colloquium.

Mandatory Scholar Requirements

Applicants considering submitting an application in response to the 2020 VPCAT Scholar Cohort RFA must be able to commit to the mandatory program events and curricular sessions below. We highly advise applicants to block their calendars and work to transition schedules to accommodate these requirements as early as possible.

  • Initial VPCAT Mentor Meeting: A 1-hour meeting with the scholar, their scientific mentor, assigned VPCAT mentor, and VPCAT staff to take place no later than the end of March 2020.
  • VPCAT Curricular Sessions: Curricular sessions are held from 12:30 to 4:30 pm every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month (except July and December). Lunch is provided at each session. A minimum of 80% attendance is required per year.
