Academic Bio

William A. Kutchera, M.D. FACC is a Cardiologist and Associate Professor at the University of Utah, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from the University of Virginia, a Master of Science degree in Biochemistry from State University of New York at Albany, and a Master of Engineering degree in Biomedical Engineering from Tulane University. He is a member of the National Engineering and the National Biomedical Engineering Honor Societies. Dr. Kutchera received his Medical Degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in 1988. He completed Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Vermont and a Fellowship in Cardiovascular Diseases at the University of Utah. During his Fellowship he received Level III training in Echocardiography and post – doctoral training in the Laboratory of Stephen Prescott, MD studying the regulation and role of metabolites of arachidonic acid in cardiovascular and oncologic diseases. He has been the recipient of a Medical Student Short-Term Research Training Award, an American Heart Association of Louisiana Summer Research Fellowship, an American College of Cardiology-Bristol-Myers/Squibb Travel Award, and was the principal investigator of an Individual National Research Service Award and a Department of Veterans Affairs Merit Review Entry Program. He is an active member of the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, the American Society of Echocardiography, and the American College of Physicians. He currently is an Attending Physician on the inpatient Cardiology Service and plays an integral role in the training of Cardiology Fellows, Internal Medicine Residents, and Medical Students. In addition to seeing patients in the General Cardiology Consult Clinic at University Hospital, he also holds cardiology clinics in Vernal and Monticello, Utah, Rock Springs, Wyoming, and Ely, Nevada. Dr. Kutchera sits on the Cardiovascular Outreach and Cardiovascular IT Committees.
