Academic Bio

John H. Bowers, M.D. attended the University of Utah where he obtained a BS in Medical Biology in 1966, and a MD degree from the U of U School of Medicine in 1970. After completing his internship in Internal Medicine at Duke University in 1971, Dr. Bowers spent 3 years active duty in the U.S. Army as a Medical Officer during the Vietnam conflict. He served with the 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Army Barracks, Hawaii. Dr. Bowers returned from active duty in 1974 and joined the University of Utah Gastroenterology fellowship program, which he completed in 1976. He then went on to complete two additional years training in Internal Medicine at the University of Utah, where he served as Chief Medical Resident from 1977 to 1978. Dr. Bowers served as a U of U faculty member from 1980 to 1983, worked in private practice from 1978 to 1980 and 1983 to 1995, and practiced at Mountain West Gastroenterology from 1995 to 2010. Dr. Bowers joined the University of Utah Medical Center in 2010 as a Clinical Instructor where he performs endoscopic procedures. He has written many journal articles, book chapters and has given numerous medical presentations. Dr. Bowers is Board Certified in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine.
