Dr. Abdelrahman is a biomedical informatics research assistant professor (part-time) at the University of Utah and an adjunct computer science full professor at Cairo University (Egypt). Also, he is a lead data scientist at a multinational company (USA).

Dr. Abdelrahman earned B.Sc. in Operations Research and he has MSc and PhD. in computer science (artificial intelligence domain). He has trained as a research scholar in highly prestigious universities, namely the University of Minnesota at Twin Cities, Vanderbilt University, the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, and the University of Utah. Since 2010, he has been a research scholar in the biomedical informatics domain. He has conducted several predictive analytics projects at the University of Utah Health Care to predict patient risk factors and outcomes in congestive heart failure readmissions, clinic appointment no-shows/last-minute cancellations, bleeding or readmission events following left ventricular assist device implantation, pneumonia mortality, and sepsis. Throughout his academic career, Dr. Abdelrahman taught several computer science courses such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, data mining, concepts of programming languages, programming in [C#, Java, Python, and declarative languages], data structures, algorithms, compilers, databases, and operating systems. He also mentored around 20 Ph.D./M.Sc. Students and supervised over fifteen undergraduate projects.

Research Statement

Dr. Abdelrahman main research interests are data mining, visual analytics, multi-agent, information retrieval, and information extraction using natural language processing and ontologies. His current research is directed to conduct advanced big data analytics and modeling to devise computational algorithms and frameworks for biomedical computing. These solutions primarily tackle clinical data analytics problems such as temporal behaviors, data heterogeneity (structured and free-text), missing data, imbalance, and sparseness. His research lab conducts intelligent computing projects of (1) data analytics for biomedical computing, and (2) computational algorithms for real-life applications.
