Academic Bio

Steven Godin received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the APA approved program at the Illinois Institute of Technology. He also received training and supervision from the faculty at the New Jersey Family Therapy Institute. He was licensed to practice clinical psychology in New Jersey from 1991 to 2017. From 1991 until 2001, he practiced family and marital therapy at the Associates in Psychological Services in Somerville, NJ. He also specialized in health psychology (risk behavior reduction), as well as sports psychology (performance anxiety and peak performance).

Research Statement

Steven Godin is a Visiting Professor within the Division of Public Health, as well as with the School of Dentistry. He joins us after 25 years coordinating the CEPH accredited BSPH and MPH Programs at East Stroudsburg University. A social-behavioral scientist, he has a BA in Social-Personality Psychology, a MS in Community Psychology, and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. He completed a post-doc MPH Degree (Health Education/Behavioral Science Track) from the School of Public Health at Rutgers University, and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Public Health Informatics (PHI) from the School of Public Health at University of Illinois, Chicago Circle. His research interests include applied research/evaluation of chronic disease prevention programs. Previous work has included evaluation of : social marketing; broadcast/digital media; and consumer health informatics. His current work includes evaluation of community based health literacy campaigns, ‘patient engagement’ strategies, and treatment adherence interventions. Also is interested in ‘accountable health communities’, collective impact, and capacity-building to address health disparities for Latinos and Native Americans in the Mountain West region.
