Welcome Dr. Kevin Felpel to the division of Cardiovascular Medicine!

Kevin Felpel, DO, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Utah, specializing in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology. A native of Pennsylvania, Dr. Felpel pursued his medical degree with honors at the Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine before completing his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Connecticut. He then completed a Cardiology Fellowship at Jefferson’s Kimmel Medical College/Christiana Care Health Program, followed by advanced subspecialty training in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology at the University of Utah in 2021.


Before his current faculty appointment, Dr. Felpel served as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in Cardiology at West Virginia University, where he held several leadership roles, including Director of Heart Failure Device Management. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, Echocardiography, and Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology.


His research interests focus on device-based management of heart failure, the integration of artificial intelligence into patient care, the refinement of systems-based approaches to cardiogenic shock, and the improvement of outcomes in heart transplantation.


Clinically, Dr. Felpel is committed to ensuring that patients with advanced cardiovascular conditions are not only treated comprehensively but also educated and empowered to live fulfilling lives despite chronic illness. As a clinician-educator, he is deeply invested in training the next generation of physicians, with a focus on advancing both excellence and compassion in the care of patients with cardiovascular disease.
