We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dipayan Chaudhuri, MD, PhD, as the new Section Chief of General Cardiology for the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine.

A dedicated member of our faculty since 2016, Dr. Chaudhuri brings a sophisticated blend of administrative expertise, NIH-funded research, and a deep-seated commitment to our clinical and educational missions.

Dr. Chaudhuri earned his medical and graduate degrees at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency at the University of California, San Francisco, followed by a clinical fellowship in Cardiovascular Diseases at the Massachusetts General Hospital and a postdoctoral research fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital.

At the University of Utah, Dr. Chaudhuri has made significant contributions to our health system:

  • Research: Serves as a Principal Investigator at the Nora Eccles Harrison Cardiovascular Research and Training Institute (CVRTI).
    Operational Leadership: Serves as the Medical Director of the CVMU and CVAC, overseeing 58 inpatient beds and sitting on the Acute Care Leadership Team.
    System-Wide Initiatives: Acted as Physician Lead for the high-sensitivity Troponin implementation and the STEMI workflow project.
    Mentorship and Education: Previously served as the Director of the Physician-Scientist Training Program and currently directs the CVRTI Metabolism Program.

As General Cardiology enters a phase of significant growth, Dr. Chaudhuri’s experience in navigating complex hospital operations and his success in securing major research funding will be instrumental. His leadership will ensure that the section remains a national leader in both scientific discovery and exceptional patient care.
