Nephrology Undergraduate Researchers Earn Top Poster Awards

Sherie Agcaoili, who worked in Dr. Niru Ramkumar’s lab, earned a Best in Wellness, Health and Medicine Poster Prize at the University of Utah Undergraduate Research Symposium—a prestigious campus-wide event spanning both the health sciences and main campus. The title of her poster was “Deficiency of Soluble (Pro)renin Receptor in Aristolochic Acid Induced Chronic Kidney Disease.”
Megan Yarbrough, mentored by Dr. Kalani Raphael, received the Best in Social Sciences Poster Prize at the University of Utah Undergraduate Research Symposium for her project, “Uncovering Disparities: Health Status of Pacific Islander Veterans.”
Sherie and Megan both participated in the Haumana ‘O Pasifika program, which provides research and mentorship opportunities for students interested in Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander health. The program is co-led by Drs. Kalani Raphael and Marcus Pezzolesi in the Division of Nephrology & Hypertension in the Department of Internal Medicine, and Dr. Will Holland in the Department of Nutrition and Integrative Physiology, College of Health.
