PARCKA is committed to undergraduate, graduate, peer, and community education around unhealthy substance use and addiction. A major part of fulfilling this commitment is our Buprenorphine (BUP) Waiver Trainings. Medication Treatment, combined with access to non-pharmacology treatment is the gold standard treatment for opioid use disorder (OUD). Buprenorphine is a medication treatment for OUD that can be provided by regular providers, in regular health care settings. However, Physicians and other independent prescribers (Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, etc.) must obtain education from a certified trainer and receive training from a certified credentialing organization prior to applying for a waiver from the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) allowing the ability to prescribe buprenorphine. PARCKA is helping these providers obtain the education needed.
PARCKA continues to increase safe buprenorphine prescribing and practice by expanding the number of waiver trained medical providers both locally and nationwide. See our history of MAT-BUP trainings below:
PARCKA Utah Buprenorphine Waiver Initiative and Education (PUBWIE) will increase safe buprenorphine prescribing and practice by expanding the number of waiver trained medical providers in the State of Utah.
