Pregnancy-Associated Opioid Use States and State Transitions among Pregnant Women in Utah (1U4U)

1U4U will: (1) identify prevalent and incident opioid use analytic cohorts of pregnant women by using the Utah All Payer Claims Dataset from 2014-2019. Within these cohorts, we will (2) apply previously validated PA-OU state identification algorithms to identify distinct states. Utilizing opioid use states, we will (3) assess state transitions of PA-OU during pregnancy using descriptive and inferential statistical methods across the course of pregnancy.

This project involves investigators from 4 departments within the University of Utah Health Sciences Center (Epidemiology, Material Fetal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Physical Therapy) and 1 from the University of Utah Main Campus, the Department of Economics.
