Shihab Lab

Dr. Shihab has a research interest in mechanisms of fibrosis in the field of kidney transplantation. One area of interest has focused on the pathogenesis of nephrotoxicity of immunosuppressive drugs. We have moved that interest at the present time to the translational phase by developing specific biomarkers that would be utilized to detect fibrosis. New investigational drugs are currently being studied to try to slow down or reverse fibrosis.

Dr. Shihab also conducts a number of clinical studies testing new immunosuppressive drugs safety and efficacy in the different phases of development. Another major area of interest is outcome studies with a specific interest on the living kidney donor.
