Celebrating Excellence in Research Growth

On January 15, Health Sciences celebrated a landmark success in research funding with the Health Sciences Research Excellence Celebration, which was held to recognize the achievement and the continued desire to do research that matters to society.

Mike Good, MD Senior Vice President for Health Sciences and Interim Associate Vice President for Research Will Dere, MD (Endocrinology) gave opening remarks.

Fiscal year 2018 was one of the most successful research funding years for the University of Utah, with $500 million in total research awards.

$356 million was awarded to researchers at U of U Health. Of that total, approximately 27% was awarded specifically to the Department of Internal Medicine. The Internal Medicine research awards can be further broken out by funding agency as shown in the chart below.

Internal Medicine has a tradition of excellence in research and this data speaks to the quality of research conducted by Internal Medicine and its remarkable faculty, trainees, and staff.
