Pulmonary Function Lab Rotation

This rotation is designed to teach the fundamentals of pulmonary physiology and pulmonary function testing to P&CCM fellows. The fellow is taught the technical aspects of those procedures performed to assess pulmonary function including the correct performance and assessment of spirometry, diffusing capacity, quantification of lung volumes by gas dilution and plethysmography, and arterial blood gas testing. Applied physiology is used to provide the fellow with an understanding of the techniques used to assess pulmonary function.

As part of this rotation, the fellow also attends Pulmonary Vascular Disease Clinics and Interstitial Lung Disease Clinics at IMC and gains experience in assessing and managing the patients commonly cared for in those type of subspecialty clinics.
