About Me
Alex was born in Moscow, Russia, where he competed in cross-country skiing at a high level before moving to London, United Kingdom, during high school. His early experiences balancing sports, mountain expeditions, and academics helped shape his interest in medicine. He later returned to Russia to attend Russian National Research Medical University before moving to the United States and Canada to pursue additional research and clinical opportunities at Stony Brook University and University of Calgary.
Alex completed his neurology residency at Medical University of South Carolina, where he served as Education and Research Chief Resident. During residency, he participated in a dedicated research track focused on stroke systems of care, neurorehabilitation, and acute stroke management. He also served as Chair of Quality Improvement, leading multiple departmental initiatives aimed at improving patient care, resident education, and stroke workflow efficiency. His academic interests include vascular neurology with stroke recovery, medical education, and healthcare systems innovation. Outside of medicine, Alex enjoys skiing, hiking, camping, biking, and exploring the outdoors — passions that continue to shape his commitment to an active lifestyle.
