Vascular Neurology

Overview

The Division of Vascular Neurology specializes in treating stroke and other neurovascular disorders such as the following:

  • stroke in the young,
  • stroke from cardiac causes,
  • stroke risk-factor reduction,
  • intracerebral hemorrhage,
  • patent foramen ovale (PFO),
  • cerebral cavernous malformations (CCMs),
  • antiphospholipid antibody syndrome (APS),
  • cervical artery dissection (CAD),
  • cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT), and
  • cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy (CADASIL).

We care for patients within our clinic, patients in the emergency room (ER), and patients in other areas of the University of Utah Hospital, as well as focus on improving systems of care locally and regionally.

Using a state-of-the-art live audio-video system, our TeleStroke program allows us to provide acute stroke care to patients in approximately 30 community hospitals in six states that don’t have stroke specialists.

Faculty & Research

Our faculty are regional and national leaders in stroke care and participate in numerous national stroke-care committees, policy development, and clinical trials.

To view which clinical trials the Division of Vascular Neurology is currently involved in, visit this page and type "stroke" into the "Search Trials By Keyword" feature.

Training Fellows & Our Community

We train the next generation of vascular neurologists through our ACGME-accredited fellowship and our community through our annual, regional stroke symposium.
