Building Legacy Around genZ Experience

Gen Z Workers: Lazy, Entitled, and Somehow Ruining Wine Culture?

Generation Z includes folks born from 1997 to 2012.

This generation has received a lot of publicity in recent years regarding their values, work ethic, and digital integration.

However, this publicity typically stems from organizations and individuals who themselves do not fall into the Gen Z age bracket. Their findings are typically summaries of previous generations’ interpretations of Gen Z, and rarely include the voices of individuals who are Gen Z. This can lead to both overgeneralizations and mischaracterizations of Gen Z’s attitudes about work and health.

So we decided to go to the source.

Building Legacy Around genZ Experience (BLAZE)

This archive is a student-led project through the University of Utah’s Honors College’s Praxis Lab Work and Health Inequities (Fall 2025 - Spring 2026). The archive includes a content analysis of journalistic reports written about Gen Z workers, a timeline of major events that have occurred during many Gen Zers’ lifetime, and results from focus groups and individual interviews conducted with students at the University of Utah regarding Gen Z and work.

This archive is by no means exhaustive; it simply provides a snapshot into the experiences of Gen Z student workers at the University of Utah in 2026. That said, we hope that the findings contained in this archive will contribute to the literature surrounding Gen Z and work and inspire similar efforts at other Universities and organizations across the nation.

Gen Z has a voice. It's time we ask them to share it.
