Researchers from the University of Utah and Huntsman Cancer Institute have uncovered the unusual role of lactate in the metabolism of alveolar soft part sarcoma, a rare, aggressive cancer that primarily affects adolescents and young adults. The study also confirmed that a fusion gene is the cancer-causing agent in this disease.
Assistant Professor Kevin B. Jones and PGY2 Resident Matthew Goodwin, both in the Department of Orthopaedics, led the research team that published its results in the December 8 issue of Cancer Cell.
