The University Department of Orthopaedics Welcomes Bridger Battaglia, MD, to the Sports Division for Integrative and Performance Psychiatry

Salt Lake City, UT — The University of Utah Department of Orthopaedics is pleased to announce the appointment of Bridger Battaglia, MD, who will join the Non-Operative Sports Division as a Clinical Track Assistant Professor with a focus on Integrative and Performance Psychiatry. Dr. Battaglia will officially join the faculty on November 3.

A native of Sandy, Utah, Dr. Battaglia completed both his undergraduate and medical education at the University of Utah, where he was also a member of the Utah Utes football team. Following his training and clinical work across the country, Dr. Battaglia returns home to serve the Utah community that shaped his personal and professional journey.

Dr. Battaglia’s clinical interests include Sport and Performance Psychiatry, Integrative Mental Health, and the care of high-functioning individuals and athletes navigating recovery, return-to-play, and peak performance. He is passionate about a whole-person approach to care—integrating mental, physical, and emotional wellness to help patients achieve lasting health and optimal performance.

As a former Division I athlete, Dr. Battaglia brings a unique understanding of the pressures and challenges that accompany sports performance across all levels. His experience allows him to connect deeply with patients and recognize the critical interplay between mental health, recovery, and athletic success.

Outside of his professional work, Dr. Battaglia enjoys spending time with his wife and their dogs, and staying active through fitness, golf, skiing, and hiking.

We are excited to welcome Dr. Battaglia to the department. His expertise in performance psychiatry and integrative care will enhance our ability to support athletes and active individuals in achieving both physical and mental wellness.
