Andrew E. Anderson, PhD
Andy grew up in Brighton, Michigan and earned his BS in Biomedical Engineering at Michigan Tech University. In 2000, he completed a research internship at the Mayo Clinic, Department of Orthopaedics. In 2001, Andy pursued his dream of living in the Intermountain West and attended the University of Utah for his PhD in Bioengineering. Here, under the mentorship of Dr. Jeff Weiss in the Musculoskeletal Research Laboratories, Andy developed and validated finite element models of the hip joint and a CT arthrography protocol. He accepted a faculty position at the University of Utah Orthopaedics Department in 2007. In 2011, Andy served as a Visiting Scholar at the Stanford Neuromuscular Biomechanics Lab, where he acquired a proficiency in muscle modeling. Andy currently serves as the Director of Orthopaedic Research at the University of Utah Motion Capture Core Facility. Besides his passion for orthopaedic research, Andy enjoys spending time with his family, fishing, camping, skiing, mountain biking, woodworking, and flying.
