About Me
Dr. Elvis Acquah grew up in Kumasi, Ghana. In 2009, he graduated from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana, with a Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology. After graduating, Elvis worked as a Biomedical Scientist in a hospital laboratory, where he was involved in providing blood transfusion services at the Transfusion Medicine Unit. In 2015, Elvis earned his Master’s degree in Cell Biology from Northeast Normal University in Changchun, China. In 2021, he graduated with a PhD in Medical Genetics from the University of Newcastle in Newcastle, Australia. His PhD work centered on understanding the modifying effects of iron dyshomeostasis on brain functions and pathology relevant to Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. As a research affiliate, Elvis also conducted part of his PhD research at the University of Sydney. Elvis’s postdoctoral research at the University of Utah’s Department of Neurobiology focused on investigating the olfactory bulb’s neural response dynamics to chemical stimuli. Outside of work, Elvis prefers to watch and talk about soccer with friends, hike in the beautiful mountains of Utah, or go fishing with his wife and son.
