About Me
Dr. Joe Laakman was born and raised in Little Rock, Arkansas. In 2013, he received undergraduate degrees in Chemistry and Spanish from Vanderbilt University in Nashville. Following college, he returned to Little Rock to attend medical school at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. After graduating in 2017, he went on to complete a four-year residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology followed by a Surgical Pathology Fellowship at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. While not at work, Joe enjoys wasting money on HiFi equipment and computer parts, watching British crime procedurals, reading, and hiking. Joe is excited about coming to Utah for the opportunity to work at a national reference laboratory and to see the Mighty 5 national parks.
