Requirements

  • BS degree with certification in medical laboratory science or a BS degree in biological, chemical, or physical sciences: prerequisites in medical laboratory science courses may be required.
  • Two to three years of clinical laboratory experience or research experience is recommended.
  • Minimum grade point average of 3.0 is expected.
  • International applicants must have a minimum score of 80 on the TOEFL iBT.
  • International applicants must take the Graduate Record Exam (GRE).

Deadline: March 15th

All applications, including letters of recommendation, need to be completed online through the ApplyYourself Application portal. The deadline for all application materials is March 15. Notification of acceptance will be provided before June 1 for the following academic year. Applications will only be considered for fall admission. All applications need to be completed online through applyyourself.com.

  • Letter of Intent describing and clarifying any experience or background in the clinical or research laboratory, reasons for pursuing a Master’s degree, expectations of the program of study, expected area of specialization, career goals, etc. 
  • Three (3) letters of recommendation. It is highly recommended that these letters be provided by a faculty member from an institution of higher education, an employer or supervisor, or another professional familiar with the applicant’s education, experience, and aptitude for graduate study.

Financial Aid
Full-time employees (75 percent) of the University of Utah are eligible for 50 percent tuition-reduction waivers. Some work opportunities are available for full- and part-time employees in the clinical laboratory and research facilities. Students learn about these opportunities during their first semester of classes. Federal work-study program monies and institutional loans are also available by application to the University’s Financial Aid Office. Full-time graduate students may qualify for full or partial tuition through the Graduate School’s Tuition Benefit Support Program.

The Master’s program follows the University of Utah’s General Graduate tuition rate schedule.
