Welcome Cinthya Zepeda Mendoza

Please welcome Dr. Cinthya Zepeda Mendoza, who joined the Department of Pathology in July 2020. Dr. Zepeda Mendoza is an Assistant Professor (Clinical) in the Division of Clinical Pathology, and specializes in bioinformatics and chromosome organization in human genetics.
Dr. Zepeda Mendoza received her BS from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. She came to the United States in 2009 and earned a PhD from Watson School of Biology Sciences, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in New York. Dr. Zepeda Mendoza has completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and most recently completed a fellowship in laboratory genetics and genomics at the Mayo Clinic.
Dr. Zepeda Mendoza visited ARUP and Salt Lake City for a cytogenetics conference and came away impressed with both ARUP and the area; she was subsequently excited when the opportunity in the Department of Pathology arose.
She has enjoyed the challenge of learning to be a better educator while working with residents and fellows; she was also recently appointed as the Vice Chair of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee for the American College of Medical Genetics. Dr. Zepeda Mendoza looks forward to more opportunities for research and collaboration with colleagues.
When not working, Dr. Zepeda Mendoza enjoys hiking and playing video games with her wife. She enjoys painting in the regional style of her home in Mexico. She also loves opera, and is eager to attend the live performances of the Utah Opera.
