Clinical Pathology Division Update

The 2020-21 academic year has brought impactful changes to the Clinical Pathology Division.  Below are some of the highlights and major events from the past year.

ARUP Leadership Change:
Dr. Sherrie Perkins, CEO of ARUP and Professor in the Department of Pathology, announced her retirement effective June 30, 2021.  Dr. Perkins’ leadership and contributions within the Department of Pathology and at ARUP have been tremendous and she will be missed.

The leadership changes at ARUP included the naming of Dr. Tracy George as President.  Dr. George will continue as ARUP’s chief medical officer (CMO).  Dr. George is an internationally recognized hematopathologist and has shown herself to be a great leader since joining the Department in 2018.

This last year was also a very challenging year as the Division managed the COVID-19 pandemic.  Faculty/Medical Directors met each challenge with strength and determination.  The quality of testing and related research was outstanding.

New ARUP Building
Another major event was the June 15, 2021 ARUP celebration of the opening of its new four-story, 220,000-square foot building.  This highly automated building will have a tremendous impact going forward, allowing ARUP to increase testing capacity and accommodate future growth.
