Departmental Intramural Funding

The Intermountain Foundation at Primary Children's Hospital generously supports multiple intramural award mechanisms.

PCH Early Career Development Award

The Early Career Development Award is a mentored award that helps launch junior investigators’ research careers. The program supports pilot research projects that generate preliminary data and lead investigators to future extramural funding. Grant funds support basic, clinical, translational, and health services-research that emphasizes scientific investigation relevant to diseases and disorders of infants and children. Applicants must have a faculty appointment with a junior rank (Instructor or Assistant Professor) or be a postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Utah. Applicants can apply for up to $25,000 each year for two years. One no-cost extension is allowed when justified. A Call for Preliminary Proposals goes out in February and August of each year for two, separate funding cycles. Preliminary proposals are due in early March (Spring) and early September (Fall).  Applicants who are invited to submit a full proposal also are required to attend a two and a half day grant writing workshop.

Find application information and guidelines here.

PCH K2R2R

The K2R2R award is intended for faculty who have prior funding success but need additional support to enhance their chance of receiving their next award.  The award focuses on assisting investigators from their K to R award, or from one R award to the next R award.  Applicants are eligible to apply during the fourth year of their K award.  Applicants with R awards are also eligible to apply when getting ready to transition to their next R award.  Recipients are successfully publishing papers and can demonstrate how the K2R2R award will enhance either the success of transitioning from a K to an R level award or the renewability of an R award.  Dr. Joe Yost will lead the award selection to focus on maximizing investigators’ potential.
