University of Utah Physician Assistant Program – Salt Lake City Campus
The Salt Lake City campus of the University of Utah Physician Assistant Program (UPAP) serves as the program’s main campus and is located on the University of Utah Health campus. The Salt Lake City campus is the program’s original location, having been located on the University of Utah campus since 1971. The Salt Lake City campus classrooms and faculty offices are near the University of Utah Hospital, Huntsman Cancer Institute, Primary Children’s Hospital, and the George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Health Sciences Library.
The Salt Lake City campus is fully accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) and serves as the administrative hub for the program, including both Salt Lake City and St. George instructional sites. Candidates interested in the Salt Lake City campus indicate campus preference when applying through CASPA; there is no separate admissions process or differing admissions standards for either campus.
Students enrolled at the Salt Lake City campus complete the didactic phase of their education in Salt Lake City and participate in clinical rotations across Utah and surrounding states. Rotations include both urban and rural clinical experiences that align with the program’s mission to prepare graduates for service in medically underserved communities.
Lectures throughout the didactic year occur synchronously between campuses via Interactive Video Conferencing (IVC) technology. Students attend lectures in-person, with faculty and guest lectures originating from both St. George and Salt Lake City classrooms. All the components of training are equivalent and provided at both sites.
Events and Opportunities
Both Salt Lake City and St. George students participate in several key program-wide events, including:
- Orientation Week (1st Semester)
- Community Engagement and Service Activities such as Care Fair, PA Day on the Hill, and outreach in the Wasatch Front region
- Board Preparation Review and Graduation Week (7th Semester)
Students from both campuses are encouraged to collaborate across sites for these shared events and activities.
