Meredith Ehn Residency Associate Director Message

Meredith Ehn, DO Residency Associate Director Message

As a medical student, I was in search of a residency program that would provide robust exposure to all areas of physiatry, as well as one that would enable strong preparation for a fellowship in sports medicine. Additionally, I was looking for a training program based within a level I trauma center, affiliated with a VA Medical Center, and one that could also support the development of an academic research career. Utah was one of a handful of programs that checked all of the boxes. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to rotate here as a 4th year medical student. During my two short weeks, I was struck by the intangibles- a genuinely kind, welcoming, and inclusive faculty; a group of residents that functioned as a team and felt like family; a willingness for collaboration across all disciplines in rehab medicine (and beyond); and finally a program director who had the unique knack for challenging and yet supporting each resident, bringing out their best.

It has been more years than I realized since I began my own journey through medical school and residency. And yet, I wouldn’t change a thing. I can easily recall the patience, humility, and dedication that each faculty member demonstrated. I became the physician, researcher, and educator I am today largely through modeling attributes recognized in my training faculty. I endeavor to share these same qualities not only with you as an Associate Program Director, but as an ally, friend, and mentor. These next steps in your journey toward autonomous practice will be, at times, challenging and even exhausting. I hope that we can inspire and guide you to become the best physiatrists that you could ever be.
