ABOUT THE GOLDSTEIN LAB
LAB MISSION
We seek to improve the health of American communities through research and evaluation, giving particular attention to those who do not often have a voice in society or research. We specialize in a mixed-methods approach that incorporates statistical analysis and machine learning with qualitative methods, including content analysis and rapid qualitative analysis with in-depth interviews. Through our work, we are dedicated to generating insights that have the power to improve healthcare delivery and population health and inform public policy and future research. Whenever possible, we seek to work directly with and in service of our communities.

ABOUT EVAN V. GOLDSTEIN, PhD, MPP
Evan V. Goldstein is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Population Health Sciences at the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine. Evan joined the University of Utah in 2021 through the Transformative Excellence Program in Health Policy and Health Economics. His research and commentary have been published in Health Affairs, Health Affairs Scholar, Health Affairs Forefront, Psychiatric Services, American Journal of Preventive Medicine, Medical Care, JAMA Network Open, and other high-impact journals. Evan has received funding for his research from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and philanthropic organizations. In addition to his research, Evan is passionate about teaching at the University of Utah, and he was a member of the 2022-2023 VPCAT Research Scholars Program. In a previous career, Evan was an administrator in primary care settings, overseeing community engagement, government affairs, and non-clinical program operations for a Federally Qualified Health Center in Ohio. Evan has an undergraduate degree (Phi Beta Kappa) in economics and psychology from Tulane University; a Master of Public Policy degree from Queens’ College, Cambridge University; and a Ph.D. from Ohio State University.
