Radiology Department Lends a Hand—and a Drill—to Support Local Families

In a heartwarming blend of service and solidarity, the Department of Radiology came together on October 11 for a bed-building event that delivered more than just furniture—it built community.

Interventional Radiology Physician Assistant Andrew Heaton, and his wife Laura Potts, recently launched a Salt Lake City chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a nonprofit dedicated to ensuring that no child sleeps on the floor. With helping hands and donated funds from the Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences, radiology employees and their loved ones constructed 20 beds for local children in need.

This was more than a service project; it was a chance to connect with colleagues we rarely work with and do something meaningful together.

The event not only supported a vital cause but also boosted morale across the department. Laughter, teamwork, and sawdust filled the air as coworkers bonded over drills and shared purpose.

Andrew Heaton’s initiative marks a new chapter for Sleep in Heavenly Peace in Salt Lake City—and a powerful example of how healthcare professionals can extend their care beyond the clinic walls.
