About Me

Growing up as a small-town Midwest kid, I always wondered what else was out there for me. I've wanted to be a doctor since I was about five years old, but I didn’t know how I was going to get there. That curiosity first took me to Chicago for undergrad, where I thought I wanted big city life, but what I was really looking for was change and a chance to figure myself out.
A few years later, I graduated with a Biology degree, got my EMT license, and realized on my first hiking and camping trip that I really love being outside. After a couple of gap years working in healthcare, my partner (now fiancé) and I moved to sunny Phoenix, Arizona, where I started medical school. I loved Arizona for its beautiful and diverse landscapes, but I quickly learned I am not built for the desert heat.
Luckily for me, med school took us back to Chicago to finish out my last few years, and I got to enjoy the city through a new lens. While I have really enjoyed my time in Chicago, it is severely lacking in access to nature, quiet atmosphere, and mountains, so I turned my residency search to the Mountain West. My fiancé and I have visited Utah many times to hike and ski, and we always said we wanted to live there. Well… look at us now!

Wilderness medicine, EMS, rural/critical access emergency medicine. 

Interests & Hobbies

In typical EM fashion, I am an outdoorsy gal through and through. I love to hike, camp, backpack, ski, bike, swim, cold plunge, lift, and, well, I will say yes to pretty much any outdoor activity. My indoor hobbies include reading, crafting (currently into crochet, sewing, and crossstitch), cooking, baking sourdough, hanging out with my fiancé and our cat, thrifting, lowballing people on Facebook marketplace, and watching hockey (I actually became a Utah Mammoth fan before interview season or Match Day… life has a funny way of working out).

Why Utah?

People always told me during the interview and Match process that you would just “know” when you found the right program. I hate to admit it, but they were right. After my interview with the University of Utah, I knew it was the place for me. Even during my virtual interview, it was obvious that the program was full of kind, genuine, down-to-earth people who shared not only my passion for Emergency Medicine, but also my love for the outdoors. I could easily picture myself fitting in there.
Beyond the people, Utah had everything I was looking for in a residency program: diverse training sites, incredible faculty who are leaders in the field and truly invested in their residents, and unique opportunities that align with my interests in wilderness medicine and EMS. Also, I’d be lying if I said the access to the mountains and endless outdoor adventure didn’t make the decision even easier.
