Intended for students who wish to the further their careers in occupational health practice, the Certificate of Occupational Safety and Health (COSH) with the Occupational Health option is appropriate for baccalaureate prepared students seeking additional competency in Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) as it applies to the career field of Occupational Health. 

A complementary pathway that allows physicians the opportunity to qualify for board certification after completing specified courses available through the COSH Occupational Health program. The COSH is one of the few academic certificate programs in the United States, for working physicians, that provides the course requirements needed for board certification under the American Board of Preventive Medicine.


The COSH-Occ Health program allows students to gain competencies in the following:

    • Managing programs, including design of monitoring programs
    • Critically evaluate data related to epidemiology or industrial hygiene studies 
    • Assess risk posed by potential chemical, physical, and biological hazards
    • Design and evaluate effectiveness of various emission and exposure control methods for potential hazards
    • Increase independence in effectively managing occupational and environmental health and safety programs
