Targeted Research Training (TRT

The overall goal of the RMCOEH’s TRT program is to develop a pipeline of new researchers in several signature areas of occupational health and safety (OSH).  Our program is designed specifically to emphasize the development of new knowledge, both in the course of the training, as well as through the development of well-trained researchers graduating from the program and advancing OSH disciplines.  New knowledge during the program is primarily developed in a TRT trainee’s dissertation generally in one of 3 signature research areas: exposure Science, Trucker/Transportation Safety, and Occupational Biomechanics.  Exposure Science is led by the RMCOEH’s IH faculty, Trucker/Transportation Safety is led by the OIPRT faculty and Occupational Biomechanics is led by the E&S faculty.  Potential TRT PhD students are advised to contact the program faculty in their area of interest.  Potential students should then apply to our programs through the University of Utah’s Graduate School website.

 Pilot Project Research Training (PPRT)

The overall goal of the RMCOEH’s PPRT program is to enhance the research capacity of the United States in the area of occupational health and safety (OSH) by increasing the number and quality of individuals who pursue careers in research in OSH disciplines.  Seed funding to support innovative pilot projects in in the priority areas defined in the National Occupational Research Agenda (NORA) is provided by the PPRT program.  Call-outs for proposals will be posted in Spring 2018.  Interested parties are advised to contact the PPRT Director, Dr. Murtaugh (Maureen.Murtaugh@hsc.utah.edu) for further information.
