Household Study Participants

For RECOVER participants who test positive for SARS-CoV-2, we are offering a sub-study regarding household transmission. The purpose of this study is to determine how often household transmission of SARS-CoV-2 happens for newly positive individuals. Our CDC-funded study seeks to understand the spread of COVID-19 among household members and whether or not the COVID-19 vaccine helps to prevent this spread.

Study Overview
    • Study enrollment will happen January 2021 to April 2022
    • The day you receive a positive SARS-CoV-2 result from the main study, we will contact you and ask if you and members of your household (children, spouses, roommates, etc.) would like to join the household study
    • Every participating adult household member will self-administer a nasal swab sample to test for SARS-CoV-2 every day for 10 days. Parents or guardians will administer the nasal swab to children under age of 7
    • Compensation is $10 per swab (up to $100 per participant)
    • You must be enrolled in the RECOVER study
    • You must have at least one household member, regardless of whether or not other household member(s) agree to participate in this study
    • A household member is eligible to be included in the study if s/he: regularly spends at least half of their time in the household
Let Your Household Know

If you think you and your household might be interested in joining this sub-study, we ask that you talk to your family or household members in advance. This way, in the event that you become infected with SARS-CoV-2, a call from our study staff will be expected.
