Career Day is a career mentoring activity that occurs during the Transition toClerkship Course for the third-year medical students. Physicians and residents from various specialties participate, giving the students an opportunity to meet with physicians from five different specialties of their choice.
Learn About Specialties
Participating in a set of “speed-dating” rounds with faculty from each of those specialties in successive 30-minute blocks. Students are encouraged to ask questions about all aspects of the specialty because there are a variety of ways to determine specialty choice—lifestyle, procedures, acuity, continuity, organ-system or primary-care based, and the like—in a risk-free environment.
The specialty sessions follow from 8:00 AM to 11:45 AM. The event concludes with a panel discussion with the third-year clerkships directors. The directors discuss how students can succeed on clerkships and Match preparation.
The students are also encouraged to use their personal experiences on clerkships to begin to formulate what they value in a career specialty.
