Meet the Director of Education Research

candace-uuhc_170310_5122.jpg

We would like to welcome and introduce Dr. Candace Chow, Associate Director of Education Research in the Office of Medical Education, who will be supporting the Core Educators. Candace completed her postdoctoral training with the Center for Clinical & Translational Science (CCTS) and the Office of Health Equity and Inclusion (OHEI) at the University of Utah. She earned her Ph.D. in Education from Cornell University, where she was a 2012 Ford Foundation Dissertation Fellow. Candace earned an M.A. in English Education from Teachers College, Columbia University and a B.S. in Human Development from Cornell University.

Candace has over fifteen years of experience as an educator and has worked in both P-12 and higher education settings. Most recently, Candace was a Research Associate at the Utah Education Policy Center in the College of Education at the University of Utah, where she worked on both the center’s educational evaluation and school support teams. She has also worked in student affairs and has extensive teaching experience, including serving as Instructor of Cornell University’s Intergroup Dialogue Project courses and teaching high school English in the South Bronx, New York, and in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Candace’s research has examined how practitioners, both in medicine and in education, understand their social identities and how these self-perceptions influence professional identity formation and professional practice. Candace’s postdoctoral work was recently published in Academic Medicine.
