I am pleased to announce that Robert N. Taylor, MD, PhD, has been appointed as the Director of the MD-PhD Program.
Dr. Taylor is well-suited to lead and enhance the MD-PhD Program. He is a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist and reproductive endocrinologist widely published in the areas of endometriosis, embryonic implantation and early pregnancy complications. Dr. Taylor joined the University of Utah in 2018 from Wake Forest School of Medicine where he served as Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Co-Director for the Resident Research Program and Co-Director of the Molecular Medicine and Translational Science Graduate Program.
Dr. Taylor will build upon the achievements of his predecessors (Michael Engel, MD, PhD and Gabrielle Kardon, PhD) whose leadership has placed the program in a strong position for further success.
The MD-PhD Program trains students to become highly-valued physician-scientists in the biomedical workforce. It enhances the educational and research activities in the health sciences, and brings value to the institution as a whole. The program has achieved many successes including three Lindau Awards, a high F30 funding success rate, over 400 publications, excellent residency placements and a high percentage of graduates currently in academia.
Dr. Taylor looks forward to continuing the great work of the program and is deeply committed to the success of its students.
Please join me in thanking Drs. Engel and Kardon for their leadership, and welcoming Dr. Taylor to this important appointment.
