Urology PGY 1

  • Rotations
    • Vascular surgery
    • Trauma
    • General surgery at University, LDS and VA
    • SICU
    • Pediatric surgery
    • Cardiothoracic surgery
    • Urology rotations as specified 
  • Call is approximately every 3rd night

Urology PGY 2

  • University/Huntsman
    • Cystoscopy, endoscopy, scrotal and penile cases
    • Every second night home call/on call every third weekend
  • VA Hospital
    • Minor cases initially with operative responsibility increasing during the year
    • Every second night home call/on call every third weekend
  • Rotations are broken into two to four month blocks

Urology PGY 3

  • VA Hospital
    • Resident-run service
    • Runs OR two days/week
    • Two (2) days of clinic; one (1) day of TRUS/ biopsy/cysto clinic
    • Every second night home call/off every second weekend
  • Intermountain Medical Center
    • Private hospital
    • Case load is variable, but PGY-3 scrubs/participates in all urologic cases
    • Home call is every week night, but is minimal burden
    • On call every third weekend
  • Primary Children's Hospital
    • PGY–3 serves as senior resident
    • Scrub for all major cases and selected minor cases
    • Limited clinic requirement (usually once/week)
    • Every second night home call/every third weekend
  • University/Huntsman

Urology PGY 4

  • Research/Clinical Specialties
    • Productivity is resident-dependent
    • Projects may be of clinical or basic science in nature
    • Basic science projects are available within Urology (andrology and developmental GU biology) or within other associated U of U laboratories
    • Residents will assist in covering heavy surgical days at the University and Huntsman Cancer Hospitals and spend time in specialty clinics such as infertility and pelvic floor disorders
    • Every third weekend on call
  • Primary Children's Medical Center
    • Essentially the same as PGY–3 year, but with more operative responsibility
    • Acting chief resident
    • Scrub all major cases and select minor cases
    • Limited clinic requirement
  • Intermountain Medical Center
    • Same as PGY–3, but more operative responsibility
    • Every week night home call, but limited burden
    • On call every second weekend
  • University/Huntsman
    • Responsible for the busy service
    • Scrub all major cases
    • Organize all educational conferences
    • Every second night home call/ every third weekend call
  • VA Hospital
    • Substantial autonomy
    • Responsible for the inpatient service as well as running clinic
    • Two to three (2-3) operative days/week, one day with attending, one day with junior resident
    • Clinic two (2) days/week
    • Cysto/ prostate biopsy clinic on Fridays
    • Every second night home call/every other weekend

  • University/Huntsman
    • Responsible for the busy service
    • Scrub all major cases
    • Organize all educational conferences
    • Every second night home call/ every third weekend call
  • VA Hospital
    • Substantial autonomy
    • Responsible for the inpatient service as well as running clinic
