Academic Bio

Pat received her Bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University where she studied French, Arabic, and Applied Linguistics. She attended the Sorbonne in Paris, France, and the American University of Cairo in Egypt. She received her Master’s degree in Nursing from Pace University and her Master’s in Maternity Nursing and Nurse-Midwifery from Columbia University. She holds a doctorate in Public Health with a specialty in epidemiology from Columbia University. She has been a certified nurse-midwife for over 30 years and has conducted research on birth issues as well as in contraception, herbal medicine, and reproductive health.
