The Division of Occupational and Environmental Health sponsors the following occupational health degrees and programs within the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine and the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Master of Occupational Health

The purpose of the Master of Occupational Health (MOH) degree program is to train occupational health professionals interested in a career in one of the fields of occupational health practice or research. Degree requirements include coursework in occupational epidemiology, biostatistics, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, toxicology, administration, and management. The degree program currently offers six emphases and it is possible to complete the MOH degree program in one year of full-time study.

Master of Science in Occupational Health

The Master of Science in Occupational Health (MSOH) degree program currently offers five emphases. The MSOH degree can typically be completed within two years if enrolled as a full-time student and requires submission of a research-based master’s project or thesis.

Online-Distanced Based

The purpose of the Master of Occupational Health (MOH) Online-Distanced Based degree program is to train health professionals who either (i) have a terminal degree (MD, DO, DVM, DDS or PhD degree) or (ii) have a bachelor’s or other degree and experience in OEHS such as current employment with a goal to further his/her career in occupational health practice or research.The degree program currently offers two emphases and it is possible to complete the MOH degree program in one year of full-time study. 

Doctor of Philosophy in Occupational & Environmental Health (PhD)

The PhD Degree in Occupational and Environmental Health (OEH) prepares individuals interested in pursuing careers in occupational health for positions such as research, academia, and or placement in prominent businesses, insurers, and government positions that require doctoral level training.

Graduate Certificate of Occupational Safety and Health

The purpose of the Graduate Certificate of Occupational Safety and Health (COSH) is to help meet graduate-level regional and national needs for personnel trained in various areas related to Occupational Safety and Health (OSH). This certification (COSH) may also meet the academic requirements for physicians working in OSH who seek Board Certification in Preventive Medicine in the specialty of Occupational Medicine through the American Board of Preventive Medicine.  Physicians interested in pursuing a certificate program should discuss the applicability of COSH coursework for meeting the requirements through the residency program in which they plan to matriculate.

NIEHS Hazwoper Training

The P2R Consortium for Hazardous Waste Worker Training (P2R) is a partnership between the University of Texas School of Public Health's Southwest Center for Occupational and Environmental Health and the University of Utah's Rocky Mountain Center for Occupational and Environmental Health, currently known as the Prevention, Preparedness, and Response (P2R) Academy. The P2R Academy offers hazardous materials worker training and a HazMat Leadership Academy designed for current or aspiring managers and leaders.
