Dr. Carolyn Scheese, DNP, RN, CHSE, CPPS, CAPM, is an Associate Professor (Clinical) at the University of Utah College of Nursing with a joint appointment in the Department of Biomedical Informatics (DBMI). With over two decades of clinical experience in perioperative nursing, she has led transformative initiatives in nursing education and biomedical informatics with teaching and leadership roles in both undergraduate and graduate programs. Dr. Scheese has played a pivotal role in curriculum development, launching innovative programs such as a hospital based nationally accredited surgical technologist training program and redesigning the RN-to-BS curriculum, significantly improving enrollment and graduation rates. Her contributions to simulation-based education, interprofessional collaboration, and faculty mentoring reflect her commitment to fostering excellence in healthcare education.

Dr. Scheese is deeply invested in mentoring students and faculty, guiding them in curriculum development, project management, and instructional design. She is a Fellow in the Academy of Health Science Educators and has received awards for excellence in teaching and mentorship, including the Sigma Theta Tau Excellence in Mentorship Award and the Reed M. Gardner Award for Faculty Excellence. She actively contributes to faculty development through the Success Academy, supporting new educators in mastering best practices in pedagogy and online learning. Her scholarly work includes peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and contributions to the Certified Healthcare Simulation Education (CHSE) Review Manual. Her interests include human systems interaction, quality improvement, and patient safety. As an advocate for innovation in healthcare education, Dr. Scheese continues to integrate emerging technologies, such as Generative AI, into teaching and research to prepare the next generation of healthcare professionals for an evolving digital landscape.
