Debra (Dee Dee) Herrmann, DHSc, MPH, PA-C, is an Associate Professor in the Division of Physician Assistant Education and Sciences at the University of Utah's Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine.
Dr. Herrmann graduated from The George Washington University Physician Assistant Program in 2001. As a National Health Service Corps Scholar, she delivered outpatient care in rural West Virginia before returning to Washington, DC, in 2004 to practice emergency medicine. In 2007, she became a full-time PA Educator while maintaining clinical practice on a PRN basis. She completed a graduate certificate program in Master Teacher Leadership Development in 2010 and earned a Doctor of Health Science degree in December 2017.
In addition to serving as a principal teaching faculty member, Dr. Herrmann held several leadership positions, including Associate Director of Didactic Curriculum, Director of Clinical Education, and Associate Program Director within the GW Department of Physician Assistant Studies. She also served as Director of the GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS) Center for Faculty Excellence and as Director of the GW SMHS Master Teacher Leadership Development program.
Dr. Herrmann's contributions have been recognized with numerous honors, such as the 2025 GW Morton A. Bender Teaching Award and the 2024 GW Academic Medical Enterprise Pillars of Excellence Award. She also received the National Physician Assistant Educator Association Faculty Rising Star Award in 2011 and served as the appointed chair of the PA Advisory Committee for the DC Board of Medicine from 2010 to 2016.
Her research focuses on the transition to professional practice, professional identity formation, and professional development. Furthermore, she investigates performance improvement, clinical reasoning, curriculum design and evaluation, and educational innovation.
