Dr. Nunez is an Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Utah and an acute care surgeon specializing in the care of critically ill and injured patients. He completed his general surgery residency and fellowships in surgical critical care and acute care surgery at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. As Associate Trauma Medical Director, he is responsible for developing targeted interventions to ensure the best care for trauma patients.

Serving as the site lead for the Center for Global Surgery's programs in Mongolia, he directs initiatives to increase surgical capacity through educational programs, including rural laparoscopy and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) training. His research focuses on perioperative metrics in Mongolia and Ghana, where he leads multidisciplinary teams to improve access to safe surgical care in resource-limited settings.
