Ken Spitzer, PhD is a Professor of Internal Medicine (Cardiovascular Medicine) and Director of the Nora Eccles Harrison Cardiovascular Research and Training Institute CVRTI) at the University of Utah School of Medicine. Dr. Spitzer received his PhD degree in Physiology from the State University of New York School of Medicine at Buffalo, New York. He subsequently obtained two years of postdoctoral training in membrane biophysics in the Department of Physiology, University of Utah School of Medicine. His research focuses on cardiac cellular physiology to include intracellular pH regulation, calcium handling and electrophysiology. NIH has funded his work for over twenty years and from 2003 to 2013 he received a prestigious NIH MERIT Award. In 2015 he received the University of Utah Distinguished Teaching Award in recognition of his physiology teaching to first and second year medical students.
