Research Statement

Dr. Wiedmeier's primary research interests entail investigating various aspects of developmental hematology and the hematologic perturbations associated with illness in neonates. In addition, she is a co-investigator of a study designed to evaluate the long-term neuroprotective effects of erythropoietin administered during the neonatal period on persistent neurologic damage as a result of premature birth. Dr. Wiedmeier has also been involved in several clinical studies designed to better define inciting events that trigger necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) in neonates.

Susan E. Wiedmeier, MD is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics/Division of Neonatology at the University of Utah School of Medicine and Primary Children’s Medical Center. Dr. Wiedmeier provides inpatient care for critically ill newborns and has a special interest in neonatal hematologic and coagulation disorders.Dr. Wiedmeier's primary research interests entail investigating various aspects of developmental hematology and the hematologic perturbations associated with illness in neonates.
