Academic Bio

I am a cancer surgeon with a clinical focus in melanoma and other skin cancers, sarcomas of the abdomen and soft tissue, and endocrine cancers (such as thyroid cancer, adrenal tumors, and parathyroid problems). I completed by training in surgical oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. My passion is taking care of cancer patients. I strongly believe in tailoring cancer treatment to the individual patient, as each patient is unique. I get a tremendous amount of satisfaction in using my technical skills to remove a cancer and then helping patients through the recovery process. I have conducted research on melanoma, pancreatic cancer, Merkel cell carcinoma, and colorectal cancer. I am actively involved in educating medical students and resident physicians. I enjoy teaching both young doctors and my patients about cancer. I am also interested in cancer prevention and am actively involved in a national melanoma prevention working group. Locally, I am involved in a terrific melanoma support group developed by melanoma patients called Sol Survivors. Outside of the hospital I like being outdoors with my family, horses, and pets. When I get a quiet moment, I am always looking for a good book to read.
