Dr. Joss-Moore is a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics. Dr. Joss-Moore’s focus is research and education. Dr. Joss-Moore received a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Sydney and a Master’s degree in Nutrition from the University of Utah. She began a faculty appointment with the Department of Pediatrics, University of Utah in 2007. Dr. Joss-Moore’s research program is centered on the interplay between fatty acid signaling, epigenetics, and the developmental origins of health and disease (DOHaD). Much of Dr. Joss-Moore’s focus is the identification of fatty acid-responsive epigenetic pathways that are active during development. A molecular emphasis is the transcriptional regulator, PPARγ. She uses an integrated approach involving molecular, morphometric, physiologic, and genomic methods to understand the complexity of molecular events as they relate to disease. The long-term goal of Dr. Joss-Moore’s research program is to understand the mechanisms by which fatty acid responsive epigenetic pathways alter developmental trajectories in the short and long-term in order to inform targeted, fatty acid-based therapeutic approaches. Her research is supported by the NIH and Burroughs Wellcome Fund. Dr. Joss-Moore is also engaged in education and development, particularly of the physician-scientist. She is the Director of the Pre-Award Office for the Department of Pediatrics ‘Pediatric Research Enterprise’. She also teaches grant and manuscript writing locally and nationally, as well as graduate-level genetic and epigenetic nutritional biochemistry.
